When I Grow Up I Want to be a Veterinarian... My school doesn't have computers. Nobody in my neighborhood has a computer either. So I didn't know what a computer was until last year. Before I went to CDI, cats and dogs were the only animals I saw. CDI taught me how to use computers to study, write, and print. Now I can learn about animals in Africa and in China and do reports. I even learned how to talk to my senators about how to protect animals. Learning computers helps me at school. It's good for my English. My parents were very proud of me when I brought home a paper that I wrote on a computer. What We Did for Dalsy Dalsy lives in a poor outskirt of Santiago, Chile where high school dropout rates are more than 20%, public schools suffer from a lack of money, people, and other critical resources. Few of the local children have ever left their neighborhood, much less Santiago. CDI empowered Dalsy to connect with and learn from the outside world. Quick Summary Through the work of Corps Member Rick Van Der Kamp, CDI has almost doubled the number of children and families that can access computers and computer training. Due to CDI's work with BBI, 83% more children will have the same opportunity as Dalsy. ---------------------------------------------------- (*) Dalsy is representative of children that have been served by BBI partners.
